Our Journey Winnats Pass Evening Please Read Me

Our Journey

Tim (who drove) and I finally made it up from the Deep South. We left the M1 queues at Alfreton. In this case the side roads proved to be quicker - and certainly more scenic - than the motorway. Through Matlock we went and past Chatsworth House - its impressive appearance completely covered by scaffolding. Were entrance prices suitably reduced? Grindleford and Castleton were next on the agenda. Then we went up Winnats Pass - which sits next to some caverns for the tourists - and so over the top and down to Barber Booth (who thinks up such names?) and Dalehead.

Winnats Pass

A shaky start to the weekend.
Winnats pass from Tim's car.
Why crop the picture and lose the relevant bits of the scenery?

Seen and scene from car.
On top of the Dales.
It probably gets quite windy up here.

Seen and scene from car.
We will walk through here tomorrow.
But now we still have to find the bunkhouse.

Our Evening at the Cheshire Cheese

In the evening we went to the 16th Century "Cheshire Cheese Inn". located in Hope near to, and southwest of, Edale. Good fare, suitably accompanied by local brews, was had by all. A good omen to the Weekend!

Seen and scene from car.
Going along the bunkhouse track to the "Cheshire Cheese", initially towards Edale in the evening (19:44). Here Edale is ahead to the east, and the railway line is in the cutting on the right. Shortly we turn off to the right, towards Hope.

Here we are enjoying the evening in the "Cheshire Cheese".

Here we are again ...

... and again!
looking through the window we can see that there is still some daylight ...
... before we call it a day and the morrow beckons!
