Our Visit to Hathersage

Hathersage in Derbyshire is a great place for great walks, as we found out on our two day visit. Here there is a lot of very "walkable" countryside, all within a reasonable commute of Sheffield. These are the descriptions of our Spring away break. Our visit was well organised - as usual - by Helen.

Afterwards, I visited Crich, to ride back in time on the excellently restored tramcars in all their Edwardian and Twenties splendour. This was time travel back to my grandfather's days. I reckon that Derbyshire has much to offer!

You'll all, I'm sure, positively gauge
Helen's CLOG visit to Hathersage.
For us it really was a treat
the Moors to explore on our feet.

On Saturday to Burbage Moor and Stanedge Pole we went,
and in a heathery bog our energies were somewhat spent!
Others to Edale Moor did wend their way,
where Nature's stone sculptures made the day.

On Sunday for some the Brontë legacy was the quest;
others went via Offerton to Brough's "Traveller's Rest".
After that, Crich's famed museum was my destination:
trams and towns when Edward VII "ruled" the Nation.

And now the time has come for us to say,
"Helen, let's have more CLOG days away!"

Now let's get to what you will see on these pages. I have tried to present our experiences in a reasonably chronological order. You are of course the arbiter of how well, or otherwise, I have succeeded with this aim and the aim of reflecting what we actually enjoyed doing on our visit to Hathersage. Inevitably, my perspective will pervade both pictures and narrative, but I hope you'll enjoy what you see!

Postscript

Helen, Many Thanks again for your excellent and efficient organisation of the CLOG weekend away. Thanks also to the walk leaders for sharing with us the fruits of their knowledge and navigation skills. All was much appreciated! Helen, I think you ordered the good weather specially for us! Many Thanks indeed.
