Ages of Lily and Children

These age figures are automatically updated every day. They are given in SIX columns: (1) name, (2) date of birth (3) days (since birth), (4) years rounded down to the nearest year, (5) years as fixed point numbers and (6) year-month pairs with years and months each rounded down to their nearest integer values.

Explanation

Figures in the table are given in terms of "Days" since birth, and also in terms of "Years and Months" since birth. Unless the subject has just been born, Years and Months will usually be a more meaningful representation of age, but their calculation relies on knowing the Days since birth.

A Simplified Calendar Model uses days to give us years and months. This model assumes that years are of equal length, having 365.25 days each. There are 12 months per year, each month having the same number 30.4375 (=365.25/12) of days. This greatly simplified model synchronises well, but not perfectly, with the much more complicated customary Gregorian calendar.
