Lily the Dachshund was born on 15 May 2024, and subsequently adopted. Her name is the flower which symbolises purity. Indeed, she has an almost pure russet fur, with few added colour features. She was about two months old when she was adopted by her present owner, who already had two much larger Golden Retrievers, Skye and Summer, to keep her company. The Retrievers were born in 2016 and 2019 respectively; however Lily gets on well with them and can already hold her own in most situations.

Interestingly, both Dachshunds and Retrievers were associated with hunting: Dachshunds for Badgers (below ground) and Retrievers for Capercaillies (above ground).

There is a lot for a young Dachshund to experience and learn when growing up. Apart from walks and playing in the garden, there are visits to other Canine social activities. Indeed, Lily belongs to a group of other Dachshunds and retrievers - a group which meets every few weeks. So there is a lot to learn, especially about canine social interaction!

This is Lily
at the very tender age of about six weeks.
She is proudly wearing her pink bow.

She has grown quite a bit!

And here the two friends are again!

She seems to be in deep thought!

Time for a sporting but warm embrace,
on the day after Boxing Day 2025.
On 26th March, Lily became a proud mother, giving birth to six whelps. For most Dachshunds, four to six puppies seems to be the norm, so Lily can be happy with her sizeable litter. She was able to care for all six with apparent ease!

Just born. It's best and safest with Mother!
Mother's foot is much larger than that of her offspring,
but Dachshunds grow up fast!

What a crowd of new-borns, all competing for mother's love!
Father had a dappled fur, and this is apparent with five of the whelps.
Colour identification tags have already been fitted.

Just a little bit more order!
About a month later (April 24th), Lily's six whelps have already grown. Indeed, they have grown very fast. The distinctive and long EAR FLAPS - so iconic of adult Dachshunds - have already appeared. However, NOSES are still a bit snubby and need to get longer and more pointed! TAILS still look a trifle short. That how it is with Dachshunds! Some months yet before full adulthood. Of course, Lily's children have now been named. There are two girls and four boys.

Feeding Time!

Eventually our whelps get weaned off Mother's milk and aim for more of an adult diet.

As of Tuesday, 12th May, Simba and Mickey Mouse have found new owners. Hercules and Peter Pan are still awaiting new owners. However, Miss Pink will stay with her mother Lily and her owner. Now Cerise (otherwise known as Jasmine) will join Sorrel and her owner.
See link for a tabulation of some of the older canines in the "Canine Club" which Miss Pink and Cerise (aka Jasmine) will shortly be joining.
Mickey Mouse and Simba will soon depart for their new owners! Very soon, it will be four! The first picture just below captures a bit of hound history, not to be repeated!

It is 15th May and Lily is now TWO years old and mother to SIX bonnie puppies! Congratulations! Yes. Time moves quickly, and Lily has reached adulthood!

Happy Birthday Lily!
Congratulations! Now you are Two.
You are already Proud Mother of SIX Lovely Puppies!
And then there were four. Simba went today to his owners in Dartford.
Mickey Mouse went yesterday (May 23) to his new owners in Chelmsford.

For a few hours after their birth, the puppies and their mother, Lily, stayed at the vet to ensure all was well. They then returned to Lily's owner. It would then be about another two months before they would embark on their respective onward journeys to their new owners. Their future new lives!

Where have all the Whelps gone?
The table assumes the Whelps were born on
26th March 2026.
The background indicates there are four boys (

pink).
The age in
DAYS at which each of the Whelps left for a new home is also shown.
"
NOW" indicates the present name, given, where appropriate, by the new owner.

The table summarises the onward destinations of the six whelps. A change in name often accompanies a whelp on arrival at its new home. However, the two ladies, Miss Pink and Jasmine, have, so far, kept their birth names. They will probably have a chance to meet up every few weeks as part of "canine social" visits!

Thanks for all the pictures so far. However, there will no doubt be many more to come. One thing is quite amazing. How fast the children have grown in such a short space of time!

Lily could feature in a "Glamorous Canines" Calendar!
However, Lily wishes you Goodbye for now!
